Hi! I’m Yoohyun Jung

I’m a data visual journalist, editor, and facilitator based in Boston, Mass. I came here in 2024, following stints in California, Hawaii, Arizona, and Korea, where I was born. Currently, I work as the co-editor of the Boston Globe’s StoryLab, a multidisciplinary team of journalists who use data, code, and design to produce impactful storytelling, useful tools, and trackers. Previously, I was a member of the Spotlight investigations team. I’m also a senior fellow for the University of Southern California Center for Health Journalism’s data fellowship.

At my core, I am a storyteller and collaborator.

Journalism has been a wild ride so far. Over the last 13 years, I’ve worked in newsrooms small and big, across platforms, and in a variety of reporting, data, graphics, and editing roles. It’s been challenging and heartbreaking at times, but also wonderful and inspiring. I believe now more than ever journalism’s crucial role in democracy, and holding together communities through tumultuous times.

And I want to continue to be inspired! Let’s brainstorm together.

I love to help make a collective vision come alive. My biggest journalistic passion at the moment is figuring out the different and awesome ways in which data and visuals can not only enrich, but drive impactful storytelling. This is especially exciting when it involves collaborations!
