Training and workshops

News Hack Arizona was an annual two-day hackathon-style workshop technology- and data-driven journalism. I was one of a core team of five local journalists who planned and facilitated the events for three years from 2016 to 2018.

The San Francisco Chronicle Datathon invited members of the public to engage in a data-driven story pitch event. In another mix of hackathon and learning, Datathon was a space for readers to learn what the data team does and pitch their own data journalism idea.

In April 2023, I led the Hearst Newspapers Data Graphics Storytellers Workshop. It was a two-day event that again combined some interactive learning with a hackathon-style pitch-off. Pitches formed at the workshop have already turned into published projects.

Besides all the workshop stuff, I often participate in mentorship projects and guest lectures.
